The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop titled “The Importance of the Family and Its Role in Nourishing Extremist Thought Among Youth”, presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Raghad Salim Dawood, under the patronage of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Na’ma Dhahesh Farhan.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the critical role families play in preventing ideological extremism and in promoting values of moderation and tolerance within society.

It addressed the pivotal influence of the family in shaping the intellectual and moral awareness of children, emphasizing that the family is the foundational unit of society. Its stability and cohesion contribute significantly to protecting young people from being drawn toward extremist ideologies.

The workshop concluded that confronting extremist thought begins within the family by fostering positive communication among its members and cultivating an environment based on mutual respect and genuine belonging. It also stressed the importance of coordinated efforts among educational, religious, and social institutions to spread a culture of moderation and guide youth toward conscious and constructive thinking.

This workshop contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 4, which advocates for quality education, and Goal 16, which promotes peace, justice, and strong institutions.
