The Guidance and Educational Counseling Unit at the College of Media, University of Baghdad, organized an awareness workshop entitled “The Impact of Bullying on the Academic and Psychological Well-being of University Students”, presented by Assistant Lecturer Mohammed Ali Jabbar, with participation from a group of students, faculty members, and staff.

The workshop addressed the concept of bullying within the university environment and its various forms, most notably verbal, psychological, and cyberbullying. It also explored the psychological and social factors that may lead some students to engage in such negative behavior on campus.

The presenter reviewed the psychological and academic consequences of bullying, which include diminished self-esteem, declining academic performance, social isolation, and the potential emergence of mental health disorders such as depression and anxiety.

The workshop emphasized that preventing bullying requires institutional cooperation among students, faculty, and university administration to foster a safe and healthy campus environment. This can be achieved through raising awareness of negative behaviors and providing psychological and legal support to affected students.

This workshop is part of the college’s counseling program aimed at promoting students’ mental health and enhancing behavioral awareness within the university setting.

The objectives of this workshop align with Sustainable Development Goal 3, which calls for ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages, with particular emphasis on supporting mental health and social welfare among youth and university students.
