The Scientific Affairs Unit, in collaboration with the Journal Unit at the College of Science for Women, University of Baghdad, organized a workshop titled “The Mechanism of Working with the Scientific Journals System.” The session was presented by Professor Dr. Fikret Majid Hassan, Editor-in-Chief of Baghdad Science Journal, and was attended by the Dean, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Yasra Abdul Sahib, along with several department heads, college members, and staff.
The workshop aimed to introduce participants to the Open Journal Systems (OJS), one of the most prominent platforms facilitating the management of academic and scientific journals. This system provides an integrated environment for the submission, organization, and management of academic publishing processes, from initial manuscript submission to final publication. It enhances workflow efficiency by automating tasks and offering a user-friendly interface for editors, reviewers, and publishers.
Within this context, the Journal Unit provided a detailed explanation focusing on the use of scientific journals registered in Digital Commons. Participants were introduced to effective methods for utilizing this system in journal management, covering all operational aspects such as establishing a journal, customizing its settings according to specific needs, and handling manuscript submissions via a user-friendly interface that enables editors to conduct efficient peer reviews through direct communication with reviewers. The workshop also addressed various stages of the review and publishing process, ensuring that publications adhere to high academic standards and quality requirements.
Additionally, the workshop provided practical guidelines on optimizing publication processes and improving accessibility to articles by making them digitally available in open databases. This approach enhances the reach of research papers and encourages open-access dissemination.
This initiative supports one of the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 4, which advocates for quality education.
