In line with ongoing efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the eradication of hunger, the promotion of food security and improved nutrition, and the advancement of sustainable agriculture, Dr. Ishraq Munir Mohammed, a faculty member in the Department of Food Sciences at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, participated in the Second Sustainable Development Festival organized by the College of Science at Al-Nahrain University.

Dr. Ishraq, accompanied by her student, Athraa Ghazwan, contributed to the festival with a scientific poster presentation showcasing a graduation research project. The study focused on the utilization of carrot waste to enhance sustainability, improve the nutritional value of food products, and minimize waste. The research aimed to leverage carrot waste as a practical opportunity for sustainability by converting it into high-value nutritional components. Additionally, it sought to enhance dietary systems through technological advancements and scientific research in the field.

Dr. Ishraq underscored the significance of sustainable development as a holistic approach that balances economic growth, environmental preservation, and social equity. She emphasized the critical role of scientific research and innovation in driving sustainability strategies forward. The project received significant recognition from attendees and was ranked among the top ten at the festival. This achievement reflects the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences’ dedication to fostering cutting-edge research that contributes to the realization of sustainable development objectives

In conclusion, the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences reaffirms its commitment to supporting scientific research and innovative initiatives that advance the SDGs, while also promoting collaboration among academics in the fields of research and innovation.

This participation aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals, including Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
