Assistant Lecturer Mohammed Mundher from the College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad participated in the 8th International Conference organized by the College of Education at the University of Basra, under the patronage of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The conference was held under the theme “Sports and Sustainable Development in Light of Artificial Intelligence Horizons.”

The faculty member contributed a research study focusing on refereeing performance about smart leadership among referees in the Iraqi Volleyball Federation. The study highlighted the level of performance among referees in Iraq, noting that weaknesses in some referees could be linked to insufficient application of smart leadership in critical situations.

The objectives of the research centered on measuring the correlation between refereeing performance and smart leadership among volleyball referees in Iraq, with the hypothesis that a significant relationship exists between the two. The study concluded that volleyball referees in Iraq exhibit a commendable level of refereeing performance and smart leadership.

The research provided several recommendations, including the potential adoption of smart leadership metrics to monitor volleyball referees and the necessity of incorporating development courses on smart leadership into the programs of the Iraqi Volleyball Federation and its Central Refereeing Committee.

This participation aligns with one of the Sustainable Development Goals, namely the 17th goal, which emphasizes partnerships for achieving the goals.
