The Continuing Education Unit, in collaboration with the Department of Sociology at the College of Arts, University of Baghdad, organized a training workshop titled “Sustainable Development: A Reading of the Local Community and How to Achieve It”. The workshop was led by Prof.Dr. Hilal Abdul Sada Khudhair, and attended by a number of faculty members and students.

The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of development in general and sustainable development in particular, recognizing it as one of the most pressing global issues that has received increasing attention in recent years. Several international conferences and summits, such as the 2002 Johannesburg Summit in South Africa, have been held to discuss the mechanisms of achieving sustainable development.

The activity concluded with several key recommendations, the most important of which is the urgent need to ensure fairness and justice in the distribution of economic resources between present and future generations. The participants also emphasized that poverty is one of the main indicators of sustainable development and requires integrated efforts across various fields to address its social and economic impacts. Additionally, the workshop called for the search for an effective developmental model capable of breaking the stagnation and stimulating national economies.

This workshop aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 17, which calls for partnerships to achieve the goals.
