Female students from the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Women, University of Baghdad, participated in a cultural showcase titled “Queens of the Land of the Two Rivers” as part of the 10th International Scientific Conference on Arab Women’s Sports: Reality and Ambition, organized by the University of the Future. The students were trained by Prof.Dr. Lama Samir Hammoudi, faculty member in the Department of Team Sports.
The showcase featured a presentation of the queens of Babylonian, Sumerian, and Assyrian civilizations, with costumes reflecting the attire of queens from those eras. The goal was to revive and celebrate ancient Iraqi art and highlight the role of women in these great civilizations.
The performance included portrayals of:Queen Shub-ad, the Sumerian icon of elegance, whose tomb was discovered in Ur, adorned with luxurious jewelry.Queen Kubaba, the ruler of the city of Kish, known for her exquisite clothing and jewelry.Queen Semiramis, renowned for her intelligence and political acumen. Queen of the Tree of Life, wife of King Sennacherib, with a prominent political role during the Assyrian period.
This cultural performance aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 5 (Gender Equality), emphasizing the empowerment of women and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), highlighting the role of women in the development of societies.
