The Educational and Psychological Research Center at the University of Baghdad organized a scientific symposium tagged “No to extremism… Yes to Peace and Peaceful Coexistence” in the presence of Prof. Dr. Fadel Al-Saadi, Director of the Center, and a number of the Center’s professors and affiliates, in addition to researchers and specialists in the security, educational and political fields.

A group of researchers and specialists from inside and outside the center participated in the seminar, where Major Muhannad Hussein Jabr from the Directorate of Countering Extremism gave a lecture on security measures and mechanisms for combating violent extremism in Iraq.

The seminar focused on the role of educational institutions in instilling the values of tolerance and peace and assistant lecturer Rafid Jassim Mohammed, provided a vision on effective pedagogical methods to reduce intellectual extremism. The symposium witnessed extensive discussions between researchers and attendees on mechanisms to reduce violent extremism through education, media, public policy, and cooperation between academic and security institutions.

At the end of the seminar, Prof. Fadel Al-Saadi distributed certificates of appreciation to the lecturers in appreciation of their efforts in providing scientific and research visions that contribute to promoting a culture of peace and coexistence and rejecting violence and extremism.

The organization of this symposium is part of a series of scientific events organized by the Educational and Psychological Research Center, within the framework of its research and awareness role to promote positive values in Iraqi society.

This symposium achieves one of the sustainable development goals represented by the sixteenth goal, which calls for peace, justice and strong institutions.
