The College of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad organized a seminar entitled “Food Additives and Food Numbering” delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Sumaya Ibrahim Hussein. In the presence of a number of faculty members in the college.
The symposium aimed to clarify the most important various additions to foodstuffs, their classification, and types, whether direct or indirect. The symposium also included many axes, including international numbering according to the Codex Alimentarius Commission and additive codes, whether to improve quality or taste or for long-term preservation against damage or poor storage.
In conclusion, the seminar recommended the need to read the symbols shown on the food packaging and understand their meaning in terms of the type of additive, the permissible concentration, and its impact on public health.
This symposium achieves one of the sustainable development goals represented by the second goal, which calls for eradicating hunger, achieving food security, and promoting sustainable agriculture.
