The Department of Geography at the Ibn Rushd College of Education for Human Sciences at the University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a workshop entitled (Geographical Environmental Awareness to Address the Phenomenon of Domestic Violence in Baghdad Governorate), in which the Assistant Dean for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Dr. Muhammad Abdul Wahed Jias, and Prof. Dr. Hanan Noman Wassin, lectured, and was attended by a number of staff of the college.
The workshop came with two main axes, the first axis included the role of the Dean of the College of Education Ibn Rushd for Human Sciences and the role of the Assistant Dean for Administrative and Financial Affairs, in tracking the scientific departments to spread awareness among students and indicate the importance of precautionary measures to address any form of violence in university circles and urge academics to enrich the university with workshops and seminars in this regard, while the second axis of the workshop specialized in referring to the definition of violence, its types, causes, risk and how to monitor and report it, as well as The geographical distribution of them in the province of Baghdad, in addition to the statement of the role of educational institutions in supporting the security services, specifically the Directorate of Family and Child Protection of the Ministry of Interior and the statement of the numbers allocated to contact them.
The workshop concluded with a positive interaction from the attendees, stressing the need for concerted community and institutional efforts to reduce the phenomenon of domestic violence. In addition, the lecturers were honored with a letter of thanks and appreciation from the Dean of the Faculty of Education Ibn Rushd for Human Sciences in appreciation of the efforts made.
This workshop achieves one of the sustainable development goals which is the seventeenth goal, which calls for partnership in order to achieve the goals.
