The Educational and Psychological Research Center organized an awareness workshop entitled “Intellectual Extremism: Addressing the Concept, Causes, and Dangers of the Phenomenon, and Ways to Combat It”, with the participation of a number of lecturers and employees.
The workshop aimed to shed light on the phenomenon of intellectual extremism, which is one of the psychological and social issues with political, religious, and societal dimensions, and its negative consequences in various fields.
The workshop was presented by Dr. Sarah Mohamed Abed and M.M. Zainab Ali Kazim dealt with the psychological and social manifestations of intellectual extremism, with a focus on the psychological aspect and the mechanisms of its occurrence, the factors leading to the spread of this phenomenon and its effects on individuals and societies were also highlighted.
The workshop stressed that the prevention of intellectual extremism begins with fortifying society with science and culture that calls for tolerance and respect for the opinions and beliefs of others, which promotes the achievement of equality and social justice.
The workshop concluded with an open discussion session with the attendees, which was characterized by the exchange of ideas and questions on the topics covered. The discussions resulted in a set of important recommendations, the most important of which is to enhance community awareness of the dangers of intellectual extremism through media campaigns and educational programs.
This workshop achieves one of the sustainable development goals represented by the sixteenth goal, which calls for peace, justice, and strong institutions.
