The Empowerment and Capacity Building Department at the Women’s Studies Center, University of Baghdad, hosted a workshop titled “The Role of Sports Activities in Promoting Peaceful Coexistence Among Youth from Different Backgrounds.”

The event aimed to explore how sports can enhance peaceful coexistence among youth, recognizing sports as a powerful tool for fostering social values and bridging gaps between individuals from diverse cultural and social backgrounds. It emphasized how sports can instill values of cooperation, respect, tolerance, and justice, helping to create stronger, more unified communities.

The session concluded with several recommendations, including: Creating collaborative sports programs between communities, including mixed sports tournaments that involve youth from various backgrounds, partnering with sports organizations and international institutions to benefit from their successful experiences in utilizing sports as a tool for peace. In addition, organizing regular sports events, tournaments, and festivals and documenting these activities for media coverage to enhance public awareness.

This workshop supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), emphasizing the importance of peace, justice, and building strong institutions, alongside fostering partnerships to achieve these goals
