The Department of Physics, in collaboration with the Continuous Education Unit at the College of Science, University of Baghdad, organized a lecture titled “Who is the Founder of the Physics Department?”. The event was held under the patronage of Assist.Prof.Dr. Raed Falah Hassan, Dean of the College, and was attended by graduate students, faculty members, and experts in physics.
The lecture aimed to introduce the founder of the Physics Department at the College of Science, established in 1949. The founder’s contributions to the spread of scientific knowledge and solving numerous scientific challenges were discussed, along with his role in training generations of students who later held important positions both in Iraq and internationally. Many of these students went on to become renowned scientists worldwide. The lecture also highlighted the department’s ability to stay up-to-date with scientific advancements and global news in physics.
The session included a historical review of the department’s establishment, the founder’s biography, and the creation of laboratories that supported the first cohort of students. Historical photographs and documents were also presented, offering a glimpse into the department’s early days. The department continues to organize discussions, seminars, and conferences focused on the latest developments in physics and other scientific fields. This commitment has established the department as a rich source of knowledge and research, continuously renewing its efforts to maintain its high academic standing and broadening its research scope.
The lecture reflected the department’s significant contributions to scientific progress and academic excellence, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 4, which calls for quality education.
