The College of Education for Women at the University of Baghdad organized a training workshop titled “Guidance Theories: Concepts and Applications”, in collaboration with the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit and the Continuous Education Unit. The workshop was delivered by Prof.Dr. Afraa Ibrahim Al-Obaidi and Assistant Prof.Dr. Fatima Khudair Abbas, with the participation of faculty members, researchers, and students.
The event focused on equipping participants with practical knowledge on how to assist individuals in learning new, desirable behaviors while eliminating unwanted behaviors and addressing abnormal conduct. It provided insights into identifying the behaviors to be changed, reorganizing environmental factors, and applying various counseling theories to analyze and address individual cases.
Key discussions revolved around Social Learning Theory, which emphasizes reinforcing positive behaviors through rewards and punishments. Participants learned that the retention and storage of behaviors in memory are essential for effective learning, and that psychological guidance plays a crucial role in supporting both individuals and society.
The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations, stressing the importance of promoting psychological counseling awareness and its role in helping individuals improve their behavior and contribute to societal well-being. It also highlighted the workshop’s alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 4, which focuses on ensuring quality education for all.
