The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Baghdad held a workshop titled “Achievement Tests: Types and Features”, attended by a number of professors, researchers, and students.
The event, presented by Dr. Mushtaq Khalid Jabbar, aimed to familiarize participants with the significance of achievement tests in evaluating students’ academic performance. It also shed light on the different types of these tests, their characteristics, and the best practices for designing effective and objective achievement assessments.
The activity covered several key topics, including: concept and importance of achievement tests. Various types of achievement tests. The advantages and limitations of each type, discussing their strengths and weaknesses and when each type is most appropriate. Strategies for designing effective and objective achievement tests.
Guidelines for selecting appropriate questions and assessing student responses.
The workshop concluded with several recommendations, emphasizing the need to enhance professors’ skills in designing achievement tests. Dr. Mushtaq stressed the importance of organizing training sessions and workshops for faculty members on developing effective and objective assessments. He also highlighted the necessity of employing a variety of achievement tests to ensure a more comprehensive evaluation of students’ academic performance, rather than relying on a single testing method.
