The Department of Spanish Language at the College of Languages at the University of Baghdad organized a scientific symposium entitled (The Future of Translation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence). The symposium was moderated by Assistant Professor Hadeel Adel Kamal, with the participation of teachers (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Riyad Mahdi, Prof. Muhammad Hashem, Prof. Enas Sadiq, Dr. Ammar Reda, Eng. Rehab Youssef), and in the presence of teaching and staff of college students.
The seminar aimed to identify an introduction to artificial intelligence translation and ways to use it in terms of positive and negative aspects, as well as knowledge of the use of artificial intelligence tools and benefits from them in facilitating the translation process, increasing its accuracy, and improving the efficiency of translators in performing their tasks.
The seminar included addressing the most important challenges that translators may face in light of the development of these technologies, and how to adapt to them to maintain the quality of human translation and enhance the role of the translator in the future.
The researchers recommended enhancing awareness of the importance of artificial intelligence in the field of translation and taking advantage of its advanced tools to improve the quality of translation work while emphasizing the role of the human translator in reviewing and controlling texts to ensure accuracy and sound linguistic context, and the need to conduct specialized educational courses in machine translation techniques within special programs in the College of Languages and encourage scientific research to keep pace with developments in this field.
This symposium achieves one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the fourth goal, which calls for quality education.
