The Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences at the College of Education, Ibn Rushd for Humanities, University of Baghdad, organized a guidance workshop titled “Practical Applications for Fourth-Year Students,” delivered by a distinguished group of specialists in educational counseling.
The workshop aimed to familiarize student trainees with the responsibilities of a school counselor in accordance with counseling regulations. It focused on preparing daily and annual plans, maintaining counseling records, and conducting both individual and group counseling sessions.
Several key topics were covered during the workshop, including the duties of a school counselor as per counseling guidelines, the counselor’s role when assigned to another school, the preparation of daily and annual plans, the process of opening and managing counseling records, the importance of exchange visits, and the specifics of both individual and group counseling.
The workshop concluded with several important recommendations, most notably the need for coordination between the college’s central committee and the Directorate of Education in Baghdad to ensure that graduates of the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences primarily engage in teaching rather than counseling whenever possible. Additionally, the workshop emphasized the importance of supervising and monitoring student trainees during their practical training and encouraged the organization of workshops and seminars for fourth-year students throughout the academic year to enhance their understanding of counseling practices.
