The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop entitled “The Role of Philosophy in Confronting Violence”, with the participation of Dr. Ghaida Mohammed and Dr. Omar Saadi, who provided in-depth analysis on the role of philosophy in dismantling extremist discourses and providing intellectual alternatives capable of confronting violence, in a qualitative step aimed at highlighting the importance of philosophy in confronting extremism and violence.

The workshop sought to achieve several main objectives, including clarifying the relationship between philosophy and violence and developing mechanisms to confront violence such as proposing practical solutions that philosophy can provide to confront violence and extremism by promoting critical thinking and constructive dialogue and spreading awareness of the importance of philosophy by consolidating the values of dialogue and rational thinking.

The workshop concluded with a number of recommendations, the most important of which is the need to include philosophy in educational curricula because of its role in developing critical thinking, promoting the values of tolerance and dialogue, encouraging scientific research in the field of philosophy to develop intellectual tools capable of confronting extremism and violence, organizing events and seminars periodically to discuss issues related to philosophy and violence, and spreading awareness of the importance of philosophy in society.
