The College of Islamic Sciences at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop entitled “Divorce in the Holy Quran” to clarify the concept of divorce in Islamic law, its conditions, types, and effects, and analyze the social causes of high divorce rates in Muslim societies, such as economic, social, and psychological problems.
The workshop, in which Dr. Najat Ali and Dr. Ahmed Rajab Hamdan lectured, dealt with divorce in the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet, the causes of divorce in contemporary societies, the effects of divorce on the individual and society, and the role of religious and social institutions in addressing divorce.
This workshop is of great importance, as it sheds light on an important societal issue—divorce—and seeks to provide practical solutions to reduce its negative effects.
The workshop concluded with several important recommendations, including activating the role of religious and social institutions in educating young people about the importance of marriage, facilitating marriage procedures, providing psychological and social support for married couples, and developing laws related to divorce.
