The Dean of the Faculty of Languages, Dr. Ali Adnan Mashoush, received the Australian Ambassador Glenn Miles and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of the Dean’s assistants and Head of the English Language Department, Dr. Rasha Abdul Reda Saeed.
The Dean gave an overview of the College of Languages, and the date of its establishment explained the nature of the scientific subjects taught in the Department of English and also touched on the demand of students to learn foreign languages and the difficulties they face in learning and the extent to which the labor market needs the outputs of the college.
The two parties also discussed ways to sustain international communication and the need to build bridges of cultural cooperation for both parties by sending students of the English language department to Australia in training courses to develop their language skills.
During a meeting between Miles and the professors and students of the English Language Department, they were briefed on the reality of teaching in the department and ways to develop it according to modern teaching methods. The students gave a presentation discussing the cultural, environmental, and social differences between Iraq and Australia, in addition to presenting literary works by an Australian poet, and through his happiness with the level of students and their mastery of the English language.
For his part, His Excellency the Ambassador stressed the efforts to send students of the College of Languages to Australia and receive Australian students to learn Arabic in Iraq. The Deanship of the College of Languages is keen to achieve the goals of sustainable development by opening new horizons for scientific and cultural cooperation with the Australian side and creating new opportunities for students’ participation in scientific activities.
