The Scientific Affairs Unit at the College of Physical Education and Sports Science for Women, University of Baghdad, organized a scientific symposium under the slogan (National Unity, Combating Violent Extremism, and Building Peace). The event was titled (Developing Research Skills and Scholarly Publishing to Contribute to the Development and Enhancement of the Capacities of Teaching Staff and Graduate Students in the Field of Scholarly Publication). It was presented by Dr. Sahira Razak and Dr. Intisar Kazem from the Individual Sports Department, and Dr. Iman Sabeih, Head of the Department of Theoretical Sciences.

The symposium focused on clarifying the concept of scientific research, how to choose a research topic and formulate the research problem, the methodology of scientific research, data collection and analysis tools, the difference between traditional scientific research and peer-reviewed academic publishing, research ethics standards, including academic integrity, the process of scholarly publishing, and how to write research in accordance with the requirements of reputable publications, as well as the steps and procedures for submitting and peer-reviewing research.

The activity concluded with a set of recommendations, the most important of which are: adhering to ethical standards and avoiding scientific plagiarism, emphasizing the selection of an innovative topic with both academic and practical significance, choosing a suitable scientific journal for publication indexed in global repositories such as Scopus, and the importance of leveraging artificial intelligence developments in data analysis.

This symposium aligns with one of the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 4: Quality Education.
