The College of Education for Pure Sciences Ibn Al-Haytham organized a workshop titled “Cybersecurity and Its Importance in Our Daily Lives,” presented by lecturer Rouma Kareem Khidr. The event was attended by the head of the Scholars Foundation for Development and Research, Dr. Sabah Mahmoud Khudair, along with faculty members, staff, and students of the college.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity and its role in our daily lives, focusing on the technologies used to protect the electronic devices we rely on, such as mobile phones, computers, and other applications that are essential for daily tasks like communication systems and software.
The activity covered an introduction to the basics of cybersecurity, its definition, the reasoning behind its name, and the distinction between information security and cybersecurity. It also discussed the core principles of cybersecurity: confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, and non-repudiation.
The workshop recommended that all colleges, across various disciplines, activate cybersecurity courses, highlighting its connection to electronic crimes and threats. It also suggested enhancing cybersecurity awareness through training courses and workshops at different levels (beginner, intermediate, and advanced) for those interested in this field to improve their skills and knowledge. The recommendation also included collaboration with scientific civil society institutions and the development of laws and regulations related to cybersecurity in Iraq.
