The Rehabilitation Division at the College of Arts at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop entitled (The Role of the Media in Combating Extremist Religious Ideas and Movements), presented by Assistant Teacher Sarah Sami Abbas in the presence of a group of students, teaching professors and administrators, who enriched the workshop with their valuable interventions and questions that enriched the discussion.

The workshop aimed to introduce the attendees to the concept of extremism in language and terminology, types of extremism, and its causes, as well as to highlight the role of the media in combating extremist religious movements in society. The workshop also dealt with ways to prevent extremism in general in society.

The workshop came out with a set of recommendations to stay away from extremist ideas, stay away from fanaticism and tension, accept opinion and freedom of expression with open arms, activate the media to spread awareness about extremist ideas and combat them, as well as hold seminars and awareness workshops to combat this phenomenon through educational institutions, civil society organizations, and the media.
