The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Education for Women organized a scientific symposium titled “Domestic Violence in Different Cultures: A Multidisciplinary Approach.” The event featured lectures from distinguished faculty members, including Assist.Prof.Dr. Sabah Sami Dawood from the College of Law, Dr. Rabab Khalil Ibrahim from the University Presidency’s Government Contracts Division, Colonel Ziyad Habib Ubaid, Major Yusra Mazhar Aidan from the Family and Child Protection Directorate, and Lieutenant Colonel Basma Mazal Aidan from the Community Police Department.

The symposium opened with a poster exhibition as part of an awareness campaign against violence against women. The event aimed to reduce the social impact of crises on women and girls by implementing national strategies and plans focused on combating gender-based violence. It emphasized the importance of establishing resilient institutions capable of monitoring and protecting women’s rights effectively and consistently to support advocacy efforts and provide a safe and stable environment. Additionally, the symposium highlighted the need to leverage partnerships and agreements to advance women’s rights while considering local cultural contexts.

The symposium concluded with several key recommendations, including establishing realistic social policy frameworks as strategic intervention options to mitigate the social costs of crises affecting women and girls, moving forward with the implementation of national strategies and plans to combat violence against women, revising legislation and laws to better support women’s rights.

Also, institutionalizing women’s rights within formal accountability mechanisms by ensuring the presence of recognized, flexible, and capable institutions, emphasizing the urgent need for accurate and reliable data to guide policymakers, decision-makers, investors, managers, and researchers in formulating strategies and effectively implementing development projects that enhance women’s roles in society.
