The Rehabilitation, Employment and Follow-up Unit at the College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad organized an educational awareness seminar entitled “Deviant Religious Movements and Ideas”, in which a number of professors of the Radio and Television Department lectured, in the presence of college students.
Prof. Dr. Adel Abdul Razzaq Al-Ghuriri, Assistant Professor Dr. Haider Ahmed Alou Al-Qutbi, Assistant Professor Dr. Rana Ali Khalaf, and Dr. Duha Saad Dawood participated in the symposium, where they made valuable interventions in the causes of the spread of extremist religious movements, and methods of confronting them intellectually and in the media.
The seminar aimed to address multiple topics, including how to dismantle extremist discourse, the role of the media in spreading awareness and combating deviant ideas, as well as the importance of promoting moderate thought in society.
During the seminar, speakers stressed the importance of concerted academic and societal efforts to address these phenomena that threaten the social fabric, stressing the role of educational and media institutions in raising awareness and building sound cultural and religious awareness.
This seminar is part of a series of events organized by the College of Mass Communication to enhance intellectual and cultural awareness among students and society, thus contributing to building a stable and safe society.
