The University of Baghdad hosted the celebration of the National Day of the Holy Quran, which was held by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in the presence of a number of university presidents, deans of colleges, and clerics, in addition to a group of students who memorize the Holy Quran.

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, stated in his opening speech of the ceremony, “We, who are interested in academic preoccupation and authorized to manage the scientific research sector and its institutions in Iraq, have the right to express our hospitality on the occasion of the National Day of the Holy Quran, which embodies a history full of leadership and a scientific path full of scientific and educational features.”

He added, “We are concerned on this occasion to strive hard to raise the levels of community awareness of the importance of Quranic culture and its impact on building society and preserving its values, which is a joint solidarity responsibility that falls on everyone, stressing that the focus in these contexts is consistent and stems from the vision of the Ministry of Higher Education because this field is one of the most important tributaries of knowledge in which Muslims work, which the ministry has devoted its efforts in this field to support that heavenly message.”

Al-Aboudi announced “granting special privileges to memorizers of the Holy Quran, including exemption from all tuition fees, with a 50% reduction for students admitted to evening study, as well as adding three grades to the general average to support their academic career.”

At the end of the celebration, Al-Aboudi honored a number of professors who specialized in Quranic studies in a number of universities, in addition to honoring the Holy Quran House in the Holy Shrines, in recognition of their efforts in publishing and teaching the Holy Quran.

A group of students from the Holy Quran memorizers from various universities were also honored, in support of their scientific and religious careers, as these initiatives come within the framework of promoting religious and scientific values, and encouraging students to pay attention to the sciences of the Holy Quran within their academic career.
