The Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul Majeed, received a scientific delegation from the National Security Advisory, headed by Counselor Dr. Zaid Farhoud Makki, with the participation of a group of research professors specialized in the fields of communications, computer science, and smart city management.
The visit came to discuss and exchange visions on the preparations for the specialized scientific workshop to be organized by the College of Engineering under the title “The Role of Geospatial Technologies in Establishing and Managing Smart Cities” in cooperation with the National Security Advisory, and this workshop comes within the framework of preparations for the Fifth International Conference on Geospatial Applications and Smart Cities, to be held next February under the auspices of the National Security Chancellery and the National Center for Spatial Data Management, with the participation of representatives of ministries, officials of GIS centers and graduate students. Researchers, civil engineers, and specialists in the fields of geomatics, architecture, information technology, urban planning, and city management.
Abdul Majeed stressed the college’s keenness to provide all scientific and research capabilities for the success of the workshop and conference, pointing to the importance of smart cities as a key pillar for urban transformation and achieving sustainable development, through scientific strategies that keep pace with the requirements of a safe future.
