The Women’s Affairs Unit, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Political Science at the University of Baghdad, held a scientific workshop entitled (Positive Excellence of Women in the Light of International Conventions and Iraqi Legislation) under the auspices of the Deanship of the College.
The workshop aimed to shed light on the concept of positive excellence as a tool to achieve gender equality and its role in supporting women in various fields, as well as discussing the most prominent international conventions related to women’s rights, with a focus on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), analyzing Iraqi legislation on women, and comparing it with international standards to enhance the protection of women’s rights.
The workshop reached a number of recommendations, most notably strengthening cooperation between academic and government agencies to launch initiatives that support women’s participation in various fields, with the need to review and update Iraqi legislation to ensure compatibility with international conventions on women’s rights, as well as organizing awareness campaigns to increase community awareness of the importance of positive excellence and its role in achieving equality.
The workshop was attended by a group of academics, researchers, and those interested in women’s affairs and human rights, where the discussion was enriched by a set of scientific interventions that dealt with the current challenges and prospects for enhancing the role of women in Iraqi society.
