As part of its efforts to enhance the standing of Iraqi universities in international rankings, the University of Baghdad organized a specialized workshop on the Shanghai Ranking of Universities and Academic Disciplines, in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Directorate. The workshop saw wide participation from representatives of quality assurance departments at Iraqi universities.

The event addressed several key topics, including the criteria used by the Shanghai Ranking to evaluate universities, which encompass scientific research, publication in reputable journals, citation counts, and the number of global awards received by faculty members and graduates.

Prof.Dr. Omar Faleh Hassan, Director of the Quality Assurance and Academic Performance Department at the University of Baghdad, discussed strategies that universities can adopt to enhance their position in the rankings, emphasizing the importance of academic disciplines and their role in meeting ranking criteria. The workshop also featured practical examples and success stories from global universities that have improved their rankings by developing effective academic and research strategies.

In a speech, Prof.Dr. Bahaa Ibraheem Ansaf, President of the University of Baghdad, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to improving the quality of education and scientific research, highlighting that the Shanghai Ranking serves as an international benchmark for identifying universities with outstanding performance. He stressed that achieving excellence requires continuous effort to meet these high standards.
