The Department of Psychology, in cooperation with the Scientific Affairs Unit at the College of Arts at the University of Baghdad, holds a scientific symposium entitled “The Role of Youth in Combating Extremist Religious Movements,” in which Prof. Dr. “Azhar Muhammad Al-Sabab, Prof. Dr. Afrah Ahmed Najaf, and Professor Dr. Marwa Roudhan Hashim lectured, in the presence of a number of professors and students.

The seminar aimed to clarify the nature of extremist and deviant ideas that have spread in societies and the role of university youth in combating them. The symposium was divided into several axes, the first was devoted to extremist religious ideas and how to confront them, and the second to deviant ideas and methods of confrontation.

The seminar came out with several recommendations, namely that these ideas negatively affect all segments of society, deviant ideas lead to the development of extremist ideas that feed terrorism, misinformation, and deception of young people and their exploitation by terrorist groups and turn them into tools against societies.
