Dr. Ahmed Obaid Salman, a faculty member in the Computer Engineering Department of the College of Engineering, organized a scientific symposium titled “Cybersecurity: Between the Present and the Future” at the Middle East College.

The event held in collaboration with the Computer and Internet Unit as part of the department’s scientific activities and commitment to enhancing communication with Iraqi universities, was attended by several department heads, faculty members, and students from various disciplines.

The symposium provided a comprehensive overview of the concept of cybersecurity and its current significance as a shield protecting the interconnected world of the internet. It also highlighted key technologies in the field and examined the challenges facing cybersecurity in the era of information technology. Additionally, it explored the critical role of this vital field in safeguarding both private and public information within society.

The activity concluded with a set of recommendations, including raising awareness of cybersecurity among students and staff, updating academic curricula to integrate more cybersecurity-related topics, improving security infrastructure in academic and governmental institutions, and fostering collaboration between universities and technology companies to exchange expertise. The seminar also emphasized the need to support scientific research in the field, organize continuous training programs for those interested in cybersecurity, and enhance international cooperation to exchange knowledge and experiences.
