The Market Research and Consumer Protection Center at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop titled ‘Drugs and Their Destructive Effects on Society,’ delivered by Lecturer Huda Hamid Kazem, a lecturer in the Department of Goods Evaluation and Service Performance. This workshop was part of the activities and events organized during the Iraqi Week for Combating Drugs.
The workshop aimed to explore the underlying causes and contributing factors to the spread of this harmful phenomenon, which plays a significant role in the destabilization of societies. These factors include ignorance, unemployment, poverty, negative peer influence, the loss of a parent, the absence of positive role models, and a weakened sense of religious or educational responsibility.
Additionally, the workshop presented findings from studies conducted on Iraqi society, along with the results obtained. It also addressed key preventive measures against drug abuse, including security, health, and awareness strategies. Moreover, it highlighted the importance of stringent actions against drug traffickers, dealers, and promoters individuals driven by the pursuit of illicit wealth, endangering their lives and the lives of others (the addicts), often at the expense of their own futures and the well-being of their families.
