The College of Engineering at the University of Baghdad organized a virtual lecture via the Zoom application on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, presented by the Rapporteur of the Democracy and Human Rights Committee at the college, Dr. Esraa Abdul Ali Kazim.
The lecture dealt with several themes related to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights issued by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10, 1948, stressing its importance as a comprehensive document that protects the fundamental rights of all human beings.
The lecture reviewed the most prominent items of the Declaration such as civil and political rights, economic and social rights, and collective rights, as well as the principles of human dignity and non-discrimination. She also highlighted the importance of the Declaration as an international reference and standard for the protection of rights and the promotion of global awareness of them.
The lecture dealt with the challenges facing the implementation of the provisions of the Declaration, such as armed conflicts and economic gaps between countries, while stressing the need to adhere to lofty human values.
The lecture concluded by stressing the importance of promoting awareness of human rights and consolidating the values of equality and justice, with reference to the pivotal role of academic institutions in spreading the culture of human rights and contributing to achieving sustainable development.
