The Scientific Affairs Unit at the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences for Women, University of Baghdad, held a scientific Symposium titled “Scientific Applications of Physiological Measurements in Sports Psychology.” The event was presented by Dr. Likaa Abd al-Zahra, a faculty member in the Department of Individual Sports.

The Symposium aimed to contribute to the delineation of physiological psychology within the field of physical education, highlighting its significance independently from the effects of sports training and human physiology. This approach sought to enable researchers to distinguish between the importance and impact of physiological psychology and training physiology.

Dr. Likaa emphasized the importance of avoiding an excessive focus on the anatomy and physiology of the nervous and endocrine systems, as well as the different hormones and their chemical regulation. She clarified that the applied aspect of measurement in physiological psychology involves utilizing modern technologies and exploring various cases in sports psychology, motor learning, teaching methods in physical education, and associated testing.

The symposium concluded with a series of recommendations, including the need to support the practical applications of physiological measurements in sports psychology, particularly in the study of the nervous and endocrine systems in sports training and competitive environments. It also called for providing further support to coaches and academics in the field of physiological psychology, as well as its wide-ranging applications in physics and chemistry, which help explain the body’s functions through physiology. Finally, the seminar emphasized the importance of prioritizing the practical applications of physiological measurements in sports psychology.
