The Department of Industrial Management at the College of Administration and Economics, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a workshop titled “Using AI Tools in Scientific Research”, presented by Dr. Maryam Abdul Jabbar Ali.
The workshop focused on explaining the concept of artificial intelligence (AI), its significance in scientific research, and its role in writing academic papers. It highlighted essential AI tools that assist researchers and outlined the steps involved in writing research papers. AI was defined as a set of technologies enabling systems to learn, think, and perform tasks in ways similar to humans. Its importance in scientific research lies in its ability to accelerate statistical analysis, uncover hidden patterns and relationships in data, enhance accuracy, reduce human errors, save time, and improve the overall quality of research.
The presenter also addressed key challenges and considerations regarding the use of AI in scientific research. These included biases in AI models, over-reliance on automated tools, and ethical issues such as plagiarism and ensuring originality.
In conclusion, Dr. Maryam offered valuable advice for effectively utilizing AI, emphasizing the importance of verifying the accuracy of generated content, manually reviewing results to ensure quality, and using AI as a supportive tool rather than a substitute for personal effort.
