Prof.Dr. Ghassan Hameed Abdulmajid, Dean of the College of Engineering, along with several faculty members of the college namely Prof.Dr. Hassan Farhoud, Prof.Dr. Basma Abbas, Prof.Dr. Muthna Jabar, Prof.Dr. Sama Mohammed, Assist.Prof.Dr. Rasha Habib Salman, Assist.Prof.Dr. Sarmad Fouad, Lecturer Dr. Omar Sabbar Dham, Lecturer Dr. Ali Dawood, and Lecturer Intisar Mohsen were honored at a central ceremony held at the College of Medicine. The event celebrated their contributions to the dissemination of distinguished research in journals listed within Scopus Q1, which are recognized as among the leading global scientific databases.

The honorees played a pivotal role in achieving a significant milestone for the University of Baghdad, securing the top position locally and 20th place regionally in the Times Higher Education ranking. This represents the highest ranking attained by Iraqi universities to date. Furthermore, the university’s outstanding performance enabled it to enter the top 5% of the most influential Arab universities.

Prof.Dr. Bahaa Ibraheem Ansaf, President of the University of Baghdad, presented the honorees with Excellence Shields and Certificates of Appreciation during the ceremony, praising their scientific endeavors which have elevated the university’s standing. He conveyed the congratulations of Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, who commended this remarkable achievement and the university’s role in advancing the quality of education and scientific research.

In a speech, the university president emphasized that this success is the result of collaborative efforts between the academic and administrative staff, stressing the importance of continued publication in prestigious scientific journals to enhance international rankings and strengthen the university’s regional and global position.

It is important to note that the Times Higher Education ranking is based on criteria including the quality of scientific research, citation impact, environmental and educational influence, and international collaboration, reflecting the University of Baghdad’s commitment to upholding global standards in higher education.
