The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Mass Communication at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop entitled “The Role of the Media in Employing Human Rights Concepts”, as part of a series of events aimed at enhancing community awareness and developing academic knowledge in the field of media and human rights.
Assistant Lecturer Amal Abbas Mohsen and Assistant Lecturer Taiba Mohammed Saleh presented the workshop, which touched on the importance of the media in spreading the culture of human rights and promoting human values in society.
The workshop aimed to shed light on the most prominent mechanisms and methods that the media can adopt to employ human rights concepts in media content, focusing on the need to adhere to professional and ethical standards when covering related issues. The workshop also dealt with practical examples and the roles of the media in promoting peaceful coexistence and combating discrimination in all its forms.
The workshop was attended by a number of college members and interested students, where it witnessed a distinguished interaction from the attendees through discussions and questions that addressed the challenges of the media reality and ways to achieve a balance between freedom of expression and respect for human rights.
At the end of the workshop, the administration of the College of Mass Communication praised the efforts made by the two lectures in providing solid scientific content, stressing the importance of continuing to organize such events that contribute to developing skills and enhancing awareness of the roles of media in community service.
