The Department of Sociology at the College of Arts, University of Baghdad, organized its weekly symposium for the faculty members of the department, titled “Faculty Members’ Attitudes Towards the Use of Scales in Theses and Dissertations.’ The event was presented by Assist.Prof.Dr. Zainab Abdullah Muhammad, with the attendance of several department professors.

The symposium aimed to explore faculty members’ attitudes towards the use of scales in sociology theses and dissertations, the differences between scales and questionnaires commonly used by graduate students, the main drawbacks of scales from the perspective of psychologists, and the advantages of questionnaires.

The discussion revealed that the majority of the Department of Sociology faculty members reject the use of scales, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the department’s distinctiveness to prevent deviation from its historical methodologies.
