The Department of Media and Government Communication at the Presidency of the University of Baghdad held its first meeting for heads of media divisions and units across the university’s formations. The meeting was attended by the President of the University of Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Bahaa Ibraheem Ansaf; Dr. Athmar Al-Shatari, Dean of the College of Education for Women; Dr. Harith Mohammed, Director of the Department of Media and Government Communication; Prof.Dr. Omar Faleh Hassan, Director of the Department of Quality Assurance and Academic Performance; and Lecturer Furat Nidhal Tawfiq, Head of the Website Division at
the University Presidency.
During the extensive meeting, the President of the University of Baghdad emphasized that media coverage should prioritize activities related to students. He highlighted the importance of showcasing students’ achievements in academic, cultural, and athletic fields, as these play a significant role in attracting Arab and foreign students to study at the University of Baghdad through the “Study in Iraq” initiative. This initiative aims to elevate the university’s reputation and enhance its competitiveness with other international universities.
He concluded by calling for intensified collaboration between media divisions and units across the university’s formations to unify the university’s media message and present it in a manner that reflects its leading position in higher education. He noted that these directives align with the university’s strategy to strengthen its academic and research presence locally and internationally.
In turn, the Director of the Department of Media and Government Communication at the University Presidency stressed the importance of adhering to the President’s directives to prioritize student activities in media coverage. He affirmed that the role of media divisions and units goes beyond reporting news, as it seeks to uncover the diverse talents of university students.
The Director also emphasized the necessity of collaboration among media officials in various colleges, institutes, and centers to unify the university’s media message and reinforce its identity. He added that every creatively and thoughtfully covered event contributes to enhancing the university’s reputation and supporting ambitious initiatives like “Study in Iraq.”
The media unit officials praised the importance of the meeting and underscored the need for continuous training sessions to enhance the skills of media personnel. Such training would help acquire new competencies that contribute to improving the university’s standing in international rankings.
