The College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop in the field of oncology, during which the Colorectal Cancer Screening Program in Iraq was launched. This cancer is the second most common type among the population.

The event aimed to provide healthcare professionals with strategies to improve early diagnosis and treatment outcomes for colorectal cancer patients in Iraq, while also addressing the social, economic, and demographic trends related to the disease. The workshop focused on the urgent need to establish an organized colorectal cancer (CRC) screening program in Iraq, as this disease is the second most prevalent cancer. It discussed the social and economic factors contributing to the spread of the disease and the challenges associated with the absence of a national screening program.

The workshop offered insights into implementing effective and cost-efficient screening methods, with an emphasis on high-risk groups and individuals with genetic factors.

The target audience included gastroenterologists, surgeons, oncologists, pathologists, laboratory medicine specialists, radiologists, and cancer research academics.
