The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Baghdad organized an awareness lecture entitled (Violence against Women) delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Ibtisam Jawad Ali. The lecture aimed to introduce this phenomenon, as violence is defined as any act that causes physical, psychological, or sexual harm or suffering against women.

The lecture included many forms of physical violence: such as beating, slapping, burning, or any other type of physical harm, psychological violence: which includes insulting, threats, rejection, and control of women’s freedom, psychological abuse, sexual violence including sexual assaults, such as rape, sexual harassment, and forced marriage, economic violence: such as deprivation of money or financial resources or preventing women from working. Violence against women is generally a violation of human rights and is linked to gender-based discrimination.

The lecture concluded that women suffer from many types of violence around the world, and it can cause serious consequences for mental and physical health, which requires the adoption of strict laws, support for victims, and raising awareness about the importance of equality and respect for women’s rights.
