The Department of Media and Government Communication, in collaboration with the Human Rights Unit at the College of Languages at the University of Baghdad, organized a scientific seminar titled “The Legal Culture for Rejecting Violence among University Youth.” The seminar was presented by the lecturers Dr. Arwa Fakhri Abdul Latif and Dr. Suhad Adnan Jallob.

The seminar aimed to highlight the concept of violence, its types, causes, and the negative effects it has on society, with a particular focus on the role of the media in combating violence and related crimes, which have increased due to economic, social, and cultural challenges.

The seminar consisted of two main topics. The first topic addressed the importance of enhancing the legal culture for rejecting violence, emphasizing the role of legal legislation in confronting this phenomenon in collaboration with various institutions, including international organizations, to adopt best practices in combating violence and protecting victims. The second topic outlined the role of the media in combating violent crimes.

The researchers recommended the need to strengthen the role of the media in spreading content that aims to build a culture of tolerance and reject violence, by implementing media strategies that promote correct religious values in ways that appeal to youth. Additionally, they emphasized the necessity of updating the Penal Code to include new forms of violence, such as cyber violence, and strengthening enforcement mechanisms by training security personnel to deal with violence-related cases. They also highlighted the importance of raising public awareness about reporting violence incidents.
