The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Pharmacy, University of Baghdad, organized an educational and advisory symposium titled “University Students’ Mental Health” as part of the activities of the Educational Guidance Week. The event was presented by Dr. Zainab Abdul-Razzaq Al-Jouri, a psychiatrist at Al-Imamain Al-Kadhimain Medical City and a member of the Iraqi Board for Medical Specializations, under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Assist.Prof.Dr. Sarmad Hashem Al-Khatib.

The activity aimed to raise students’ awareness of mental health concepts, teach strategies for coping with crises and psychological pressures in daily life and social relationships, and promote a culture of mental health. It also encouraged positive behaviors to enhance well-being and provided awareness of the societal risks associated with negative phenomena such as smoking and drug use.

The discussion covered the signs of mental health decline and ways to improve it by effectively managing time, building healthy habits, fostering social relationships, practicing self-care, enhancing self-esteem, and seeking help when needed.

At the conclusion of the interactive seminar, participants’ questions and inquiries were addressed. Attendees praised the presenter’s ability to effectively convey information and expressed appreciation for learning techniques such as proper breathing methods and relaxation exercises to reduce stress and psychological tension.
