The Urban and Regional Planning Center for Graduate Studies at the University of Baghdad organized an educational workshop titled “Registration and Ownership of Firearms for Citizens,” in collaboration with the Firearms Control and Regulation Division at the Ministry of the Interior’s Police Affairs Directorate. The workshop was delivered by Major Salam Sadeq Maktouf, from the Rusafa Police Command.
The workshop aimed to educate attendees about the process of registering light firearms for ownership and carrying, and the categories of individuals eligible for this, such as doctors, pharmacists, university professors, journalists, and others with managerial positions of department head or higher. Individuals in these positions are also allowed to purchase firearms from the Military Industry Corporation based on official correspondence confirming the person’s status and position. These firearms are manufactured to international standards by skilled local hands.
Maktouf emphasized that it is now possible to apply for firearm registration through the “Awr” electronic platform for registering light firearms permits or registering a rifle as a household firearm through the same platform’s firearms registration service.
