The faculty member at the College of Education for Women, Department of Arabic Language, Dr. Hassan Mandil Al-Ageeli, participated in the conference held by the Iraqi Scientific Academy (Academy of the Immortals) on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of its founding. The conference, which focused on research by members of the Iraqi Scientific Academy, was titled “The Iraqi Scientific Academy and Linguistic Security.” It highlighted the core mission and objectives of the Academy, particularly its role in serving the Arabic language. According to its legal statutes, the Academy is the sole authority in Iraq responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Arabic language through the methods outlined in its law.
Dr. Al-Ageeli, a member of the Iraqi Scientific Academy, presented a paper titled “Perspectives on the Official Language Laws in Iraq and the Iraqi Scientific Academy.” The paper discussed the official language laws in Iraq, comparing them, and examined the Iraqi Scientific Academy’s law.

The research noted several influences in the formulation of these laws, most notably political ones. These political factors do not necessarily align with the essence of the language, as Arabic stands apart from other languages due to its status as the language of Islam and Islamic peoples, according to the traditional view.

The paper called for a review and reconsideration of these laws, urging involvement from experts in the field, independent of political influences. Among the laws discussed were the Law for the Protection of the Arabic Language of 1973, which is considered the strongest law for preserving the Arabic language, and the Law on Iraqi Languages of 2014, which is seen as its opposite. The paper also highlighted the Iraqi Scientific Academy’s language law, which can be regarded as a key law for Arabic language preservation, as it issues legal provisions for the Arabic language.

Additionally, the paper addressed contemporary linguistic issues, including the isolation of the Arabic language in the departments of Arabic language from society, as well as its separation from state cultural, media, and political institutions. Dr. Al-Ageeli was awarded a certificate of appreciation for his distinguished scientific efforts during the conference.
