The Genetic Engineering Branch at the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Baghdad held a special antibiotic awareness festival with the participation of master’s students and the presence of a large number of professors and employees of the Institute, under the slogan “Antibiotics are not a solution”.
The festival aimed to raise awareness of antibiotics and the possibilities and risks of their use. The festival included the presentation of a series of antibiotics and anti-drugs equipped with special designs that illustrate their danger.
The manuscripts, which were hung and placed inside the festival hall, explained that antibiotic resistance impairs human ability to treat infections and poses a major health threat. The festival recommended the importance of taking antibiotics only when needed by prescription, warning against using them in cases of colds and flu, and urging patients to complete therapeutic doses even if they feel completely better.
The festival hosted a number of professors of the faculties of biotechnology at Al-Nahrain University, headed by the Assistant Dean Prof. Dr. “Risalat Razouki Al-Lami”, where they expressed their high admiration for the organization of the event and its importance in raising community awareness.
