The College of Law at the University of Baghdad held a scientific symposium entitled (Preventive Measures to Treat Drug Abuse), delivered by the lecturer in the Criminal Law Branch, Dr. Alaa Nasser Hussein, in the presence of graduate students.

The seminar aimed to educate young people addicted to the abuse of drugs and psychotropic substances to integrate them into society and return as members of it instead of punishing them.

The seminar included several axes, including as an alternative to punishment applied after fulfilling a set of conditions mentioned in Article (39), as an impediment to filing a lawsuit, as stipulated in Article (40).

The symposium came out with the addition of community service measures in addition to these measures, for example, working for the public benefit, such as cleaning roads and parks, caring for the elderly and orphans, or working in the same health institutions to treat addicts as a free service.
