On the occasion of the counseling week launched by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the psychological counseling and educational guidance units at the University of Baghdad organized a major awareness campaign in all its formations, focusing on the objectives and types of psychological counseling, and the controls for good dealing with students on campus.
The workshops aimed to provide a detailed explanation of the objectives and types of counseling, highlighting its essential role in helping students overcome academic and personal challenges, as well as addressing the subject of domestic violence, its types and psychological and social effects, and the importance of preventing it and enhancing awareness of its causes and ways to deal with it.
Dr. Hussam Yassin, responsible for counseling units at the Educational and Psychological Research Center at the University of Baghdad, and a number of officials of psychological counseling and educational guidance units at the University of Baghdad, lectured in the workshops. Professors of psychological counseling at the University of Baghdad stressed during the opening of the workshops the need to pay attention to enhancing the skills of psychological counselors, and that psychological counseling represents the cornerstone in supporting the mental health of the individual and society. These workshops aim to give students the necessary tools to deal with social and educational challenges.
The workshops recommended the pivotal role of psychological counseling in improving the university educational environment and enhancing students’ awareness of the psychological and social issues facing them. The workshops included fruitful discussions and an exchange of views on the presented topics.
