The Department of Sociology at the College of Arts, University of Baghdad, organized a field visit for students of preliminary and postgraduate studies in social work, to the psychiatric palliative clinic at the Oncology Teaching Hospital, Medical City Department.

The visit, which was supervised by Prof. Dr. Afrah Jassim Mohammed, aimed to see the most important services provided to cancer patients, the most important roles played by the social worker in cooperation with the work team in the field of palliative care, and the individual and group treatment methods provided to the beneficiaries. The delegation met with a group of recovered people who were cured of the disease.

Prof. Dr. Afrah Jassim Mohammed, Professor of Social Work, emphasized that social workers are an integral part of the multidisciplinary team of palliative care, yet there are disproportionately few training programs for social work students in the Department of Sociology in this field. Prof. Dr. Afrah Jassim recommended the need to develop the necessary skills for students in this field before graduation by educating them in the field of palliative care.
