Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Munir Al-Saadi, the Rector of the University of Baghdad, Department of Studies and Planning at the University, organized an electronic symposium titled “Green Surgery and Sustainable Health Development.” This event took place via the Zoom platform and it was an incredible opportunity for an amalgamation of minds as researchers, professors, and students who were attended it.

The symposium was delivered by Dr. Amer Hisham Al-Saffar, a consultant physician specializing in stroke and geriatric diseases at Cardiff University in the UK, where discussed the concept of sustainable health development and its impact on health, the environment and the local economy. Additionally, he highlighted the most effective strategies that hospitals can adopt to achieve sustainable health development. Dr. Al-Saffar also explored the concept of green surgery and emphasized the role of scientific research in environmental preservation and community health improvement. The presentation also included examples of successful green surgical projects in the UK.

This enlightening symposium is an integral part of a series of events organized by the University of Baghdad’s platform for sustainable development .The platform was initiated by the university and is supervised by Dr. Manal Al-Kubaisi, the Manager of the Studies and Planning Department.
